Colfax Township's assessor is Gunnar Brow. Taxpayers with assessment questions can find Mr. Brow's contact information on the Township Officers and Assessor page. Mr. Brow will annually visit approximately 20% of properties in the township to verify accuracy of assessment records as required by the State of Michigan. Mr. Brow will be wearing an identification badge as he performs his duties, and the township Board shall appreciate your cooperation when it comes time for him to visit your property. Other associates of Michigan Assessing Service, Inc. may also assist when necessary

Household Hazardous Collections

  • Residential Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collection Days will be held 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on:
  • Saturday, June 17 – Frankfort
  • Saturday, August 5 – Almira Township Hall

Call 231-882-0554 to make an appointment with David Schaffer, coordinator for Benzie County Recycling/Solid Waste Department. Appointments are required for an orderly drop-off process.

See the Benzie County Recycling and Solid Waste Department's Web page for informative documents and links. The page also shows their address, office hours, and contact information.

Benzie County is committed to environmental health through recycling opportunities, household hazardous waste and electronic equipment collections, and educational programs. The Recycling Program provides alternatives to residents and businesses to properly dispose of solid waste and keep it out of the landfill whenever possible.

These are just samples of what can be found on the county's Recycling Web page:

A Recycling Site is located at the DPW Maintenance Building on CR669 (Michigan Avenue) just north of Lincoln (Lindy Road) in the Village of Thompsonville.  It is well lit and equipped with a security camera. Separate bins are provided for recyclables and glass only.  Never leave trash or construction material in a bin or on the ground.  This is considered illegal dumping and violators will be prosecuted.

There are six additional Recycling Sites throughout Benzie County:

  • Almira Township Park on Ole’ White Road
  • Benzonia at Save-A-Lot Shopping Center on US 31
  • Beulah at Village Municipal Parking Lot
  • Frankfort at 404 Parkview Lane (Industrial Park)
  • Honor at the Road Commission on US 31
  • Lake Ann Elementary School on Bronson Lake Road
